To celebrate Beltane, here’s Christine Mackie reading a snippet from Chapter 14, ‘Ten Moons’ from the Widdershins audiobook.
This chapter is set on May Day when Jane Chandler is crowned Queen of the May and the Maypole is being decorated. But first, there comes a stern warning from Reverend Foster about the magic and licence in the air at Beltane.
Christine is doing a brilliant job of bringing Widdershins to life and at the time of writing, we’re at the halfway mark. So, 15 chapters have been recorded and produced, with another 15 to go. By happy coincidence, chapter 14 is all about old May Day customs and Beltane celebrations, so it’s very timely.
I’ve been listening to each chapter as it’s produced and I can’t wait to listen to the whole book from start to finish. Christine is an immensely talented actor and I’ve been amazed by her brilliant voicing and characterisation. (If her voice sounds familiar, you might know her better as Daphne Bryant in Downton Abbey, Doctor Susan Gaddas in Coronation Street, or Penelope Wallace in Doctors.)
Watch this space for news of when the Widdershins audiobook will be available on Audible, iTunes and Amazon. In the meantime, you can read it in print or e-book, along with its sequel, Sunwise.
Best wishes, Helen
